Recent & Ongoing Events & Projects
Prayer Shawl Group Community Scarf Project
In early February, the Prayer Shawl Group decided to add a little warmth to the world by offering free scarves to those who might be in need of a neckwarmer. The scarves were left on the churchyard fence, with a note saying “If you need it, it’s yours.”
December 17 – Saturday Soup
One action arising from September’s “Women connecting with Women” event was the launch of a monthly Saturday Soup programme at Westminster. December’s soup kitchen was covered by CBC Saskatchewan! Check it out at cbc.ca/news (or Google “Saturday soups served monthly by Westminster United Church”).
December 11 – Community Christmas Party
Wagon ride pulled by Clydesdale horses! Hot bevies, games and crafts inside. A visit from a “jolly ole sole”. Ending with carol singing in the sanctuary. This was a free event to all, our way of saying, “Merry Christmas!”

(Separate scrolling for text and photo areas below. Click photos to enlarge.)
The Right Reverand Jordan Cantwell, Moderator of the United Church of Canada, delivered the Reflection at the Service of Praise at the close of the 90th annual meeting of Saskatchewan Conference of the United Church. The theme for the meeting and her message was Love Your Neighbour. This service was held at Westminster United Church in Regina with 497 people in attendance. The service also included two ordinations, recognition of one Designated Lay Minister and two transfers in to the United Church from other denominations. Music is a key part of every conference. Flamingo Friday led all of the music throughout the 3 days’ meetings and again on Sunday. A joint choir comprised of attendees at the annual meeting and members of Westminster Church choir provided 3 musical selections. Prior to the end of the service the handing over of the presidency was made from outgoing President Rev. John Haas to the incoming President Rev Krystall Shemerka. A reception was held following the service.
